Daily Calls At All Hours

We kept seeing the name Arbitron on our caller ID so we chose not to pick up and let the answering machine get it instead. The calls became more frequent yet they never leave a message stating the purpose of their call. This is so frustrating. Plus they'll dial at 9pm or 7am and any hour in between. I don't even know who Arbitron is but I guarantee you this: we'll never knowingly do any business related to this company.

Obnoxious Call Times/Harrassing Callers

On Wed 5/20 we received an invite in the mail to participate in Arbitron's radio listening survey and enclosed a crisp $1 bill. The instructions inside said that they'd attempt to reach us by telephone (and I was thinking once or twice) and that if they didn't reach us we could go online to a provided site and follow the instructions. I told my husband that an Arbitron had called around noon-time (left no message) but I didn't recognize the company and now it made sense, with the letter, who they were and what they wanted. Just moments after opening the letter the phone rings again and it's Arbitron (didn't leave a message) but we didn't answer because we were about to eat dinner. We discussed over dinner that we weren't interested in participating and we thought that this call would be the last of it...oh...it was just the beginning. Thurs (5/21) they called at 7:32pm (but no message again). Friday (5/22) they called at 10:32am (still no message). Sat (5/23) at 11:00am they called and left a message this time and again later at 4:43pm. Sun (5/24) they called at 7:08pm and left a message. On Memorial Day Monday (5/25) they called at 12:50pm and 6:51pm and left an identical message as previous ones. On Tuesday (5/26) they called first at 7:58pm (while we were out) and then at just before 10:00pm the phone rings and they left a message saying that this would be their final attempt (YES,FINALLY!)...yeah right!...the next morning (Wed 5/27) they called before 8:00am and my husband was so furious that he answered and as politely as he could told the woman he was not interested in participating. We THOUGHT that that settled it and we wouldn't be hearing from them again...BUT... they just called and I answered and the woman went into this long spiel of how it may be recorded and what they're calling for and stopped to ask me if I was a member of the household 16 y/o or older. I did not wish to answer and politely informed her that we had answered first thing this morning and told them flat out we weren't interested and then she kept pushing going on and on about what they were trying to accomplish and pushing me to answer if I was 16 years of age or not. When I said yes but started to reiterate our refusal to participate she cut me off and started informing me that they'd like to send out a diary for us to fill out for one week and I kindly said that we were not interested in participating (yet again) and she then went on with asking us why we wouldn't do it since they were planning on giving us compensation enough to buy a quote "small cup o' coffee or donut" and I said I don't want a small cup o' coffee or donut and I wanted to be left alone and she continued to argue with me and she insisted again on sending out that diary and finally I said, "my husband answered this morning and said NO" and she then very rudely says, "well next time there's a survey we will not be selecting your household to participate" (as if that were a threat) and I said "yes, that's what we want, thank you!" I don't know if this is the end of it or not...

We were asked to carry a monitor to pick-up on all TV and radio waves we come into contact through out the day. My husband and I were to get $5 a week and my son $10. You have to keep with you NO matter what. I wear dresses, and my son cannot have any electronic devices at work. First, you must have 600 point for the week to get paid. Second, you have to be moving every ten minutes. I work at a desk that I don't always move around. It is a big commitment! At night, you are to carry it with you, even when you get ready to settle down for the night. If you lie down to watch TV it will turns off after ten minutes. Then you will get the calls. Oh GD, the calls, non-stop. Again, it is a big commitment! You will have to carry this monitor more than you carry your phone, because you cannot leave it in your purse or set it aside.

Lots of this information is incorrect. The members in the household who are over 18 must get 400 points a week, anyone under 18 needs 300 points a week.

You earn a point every 10 minutes, which makes 6 points an hour. As long as you're breathing, you don't have to physically get up and walk around; the meter still records your points.

You shouldn't need to wear your meter right before going to bed as long as you wear it long enough during the day. The calls can be a little much, but they usually only call if you aren't wearing the meter often enough.

Guest

Then you should have declined if you wear dresses, you work at a desk and your son cannot have electronics at school, sheesh

3 of us wear the monitors which are dmaller than a flip phone, they are only receivers so harmless. We have done this for 3+ yrs and receive $80 a month . Its a game, easy cash. No big deal. Our friends would like to do this too but have not been invited by arbitron. We like the game and mad money.

Too many calls!!!

Last year I received an invitation to do a radio survey and the invitation came with a dollar inside. I responded, did the survey, and received a few more dollars for completing it. I thought it was over and done with but now they call my house every day starting at 9:15am and call SEVERAL times a day. When I answer the phone, they hang up. And, although I am sure I am being auto-dialed by some machine... I am always called two times back to back! I am beyond annoyed with this company. I want to rip my phone out of the wall and shove it .... oh, what's the use!! Anyone else having this problem? What did you do to make it stop?

ARBITRON, whom I have never had any dealings, calls from 8 AM to 10 PM several times daily.

I have filed several complaints w/ the governments DO NOT CALL registry. They still call.

As you say, if you answer they hang up, if you don't they leave a msg. The goal is to get YOU to call them... when you do it changes the legalities of the whole thing...

report it, let it go. Contact the phone company provider and make a complaint...

You may have to pay a fee to have them block them. Good luck.

Survey Review

I was asked to do the diary and sent it in and it's been over a month and I still haven't got my money that they said they would send. It was supposed to be $30 all together for 3 of us to do this! I have sent them an email and no answer back. I'm not happy at all about this!! I was counting on that money and still no word from them!!

Harassing calls

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Arbitron calls without leaving a message, but tonight was the last straw. They phoned me at 10:45pm. Offensive. This should not be allowed. I called back and they said that they were having trouble with their system. That excuse is not good enough. Why can't something be done to stop these calls? I'm on the do not call list. These telemarketing calls are becoming more and more frequent and nobody is able to do anything to stop them. Why is there a loophole for this type of company? They're not officially 'selling' anything, but they are still bothering me at home or on my mobile phone. I never want to hear from this organization again nor do I want to contribute anything to people that make calls to my home.

Arbitron call centers are on the East Coast. Which means if they called you, in San Diego, at 10:45 pm, someone would have been calling at 1:45 am...which sounds fishy to me. I think you're probably just stretching the truth.

They've been calling my house at 10pm also, which would make it 9pm their time. But they should know what time zone they're calling.

Guest

they don't have to abide by telemarketing laws be cause they don't sell anything

Guest

Our home has been doing the arbitron ratings for 10months now at first we got calls never past 9. They do ask us what our preferred contact time was and they respect that.

Also with our home we got to choose HOW to be contacted I personally chose text (less annoying than calls). Lastly, they don't call you if you actually carry the meter with you.

Guest

Are you a member of their panel? They pay people to carry around a meter that picks up specific electronic signatures being broadcast by radio and TV stations to count listeners for advertisers to set station rates. If you do not carry your meter with you everywhere you go it shows up on their systems and they call people to remind them that to get paid each month they have to carry their meter around every day.

Guest

It is not telemarketing though. They just ask u a few questions and they actually send u money.

I received $14 from them. All u have to do is take a survey.

Wow, why the name calling??? Why must people be so immature and start calling others names?

Even my 8 year old doesn't do that. She says it is very rude, nasty, and not needed at all. With that being said. I don't care what Arbitron does.

Yes, I know it's a survey, but I don't care. I am especially pissed off that they would call my house at 9:15 at night, waking my children up.

I will be filing a complaint with the FTC and possibly the AG here in Florida. A tiny bit of money for taking a *** survey is NOT worth my children being woken up from a deep sleep, especially on a school night.

Review in Television/ Radio category from San Jose, California

Our home has been doing the arbitron ratings for 10months now. It's not bad we get paid for just keeping a pager on me. My kids have a lot of fun knowing their voting for their favorite shows. We all enjoy the extra cash especially the bonuses. We did at first get calls never past 8pm. They did ask us what our preferred contact time was and they respect that. Also, with our home we got to choose HOW to be contacted I personally chose text (less annoying than calls). Lastly, they don't call you if you actually carry the meter with you. Because most of the contacts are reminders. They occasionally do still call but it's to update info.

Arbitron annoying phone calls

This company has been calling my house two or three times a day for the past 2 weeks. I finally answered the phone two days ago and told the person not to call this number again. The calls continued. The call tonight at 8:30 pm was the last straw. I again told the caller not to call. I then called their 800 number and told the person who answered (after he refused to let me talk to a supervisor) that I would file a complaint with the Ohio AG if they call again (and I will). I am placing a complaint on every website I can.

Arbitron not to be trusted

Arbitron sent my household a letter asking us to participate in rating our daily radio listening habits. They called several times to confirm that we would participate. I told them we would and started a diary. They called CONTINUOUSLY and we ignored the calls. I finally answered one evening and told them that we were participating but would not if they continued to call. The day before our diaries were due, I sat down to complete the question part of their survey. It was SO invasive and even asked what political party we were. With the IRS abuses of conservative groups under this administration, there is no way I would complete the questionnaire. I left a message on their recorder stating as such.

Arbitron

This company has called our home phone # several times a day even though we are on the National do not call list. Last night they called at 10:00 p.m.and woke us up. I told them to put me on their do not call list and was told "we don't work with any lists". I was extremely pissed and told her to never call again and she just kept talking. I would love to find out how to get rid of these annoying phone calls - don't all companies have to comply with the no calling after 9:00 p.m. rule?

Arbitron is a rip off! My wife and I decided to send back our meters and we are waiting for our last check.

Come to find out when we called them, that we are going to only get $7.50 because they said that there wasn't much meter wear for 2 weeks!!! We wore our meters all day everyday!!!

Everyday we got AT LEAST 60-70 points!!! LIARS!!!
